Fitness & nutrition advice every woman NEEDS to hear | hormones, protein, fasted workouts

1. Intermittent Fasting & Fasted Workouts

  • Fasting is bad for active women: Skipping breakfast raises cortisol (stress hormone) levels in the morning. Women should eat 30–60 minutes after waking up to lower stress.

  • Don't exercise on an empty stomach: Fasted training makes women store more fat, increases stress, and makes workouts less effective.

  • Pre-workout snacks:

    • For weight training: 15g protein + some carbs (like a banana or dates).

    • For cardio: 30g carbs.

2. Post-Workout Nutrition (The Timing)

  • The 1-hour window: A woman's body recovers much faster than a man's. You must eat within 30–45 minutes after working out, or your body will burn muscle for energy.

  • What to eat:

    • Aim for at least 35g of high-quality protein right after training.

    • Eat about 18g of carbs (like a slice of bread or a banana) within 2 hours after training.

3. The Best Workout Routine

  • Lift weights: Resistance training is the foundation. It will not make women bulky. Aim for at least 3 strength sessions per week.

  • HIIT over long cardio: High-Intensity Interval Training (like 20–30 second sprints on a treadmill followed by a short walk, repeated 3–5 times) is much better for women. Do this 1–2 times a week.

4. Workouts & The Menstrual Cycle

  • Follicular Phase (After period to ovulation): Estrogen is low, and energy is high. This is the best time to lift heavy weights and do intense workouts (HIIT).

  • Luteal Phase (Before period / PMS): Energy drops. Women should be gentler on their bodies and do lighter workouts.

  • Food affects the cycle: Cutting calories, carbs, or healthy fats too low will mess up your hormones and stop your period.

5. Ice Baths vs. Sauna

  • Ice baths are too shocking: Very cold water (10°C) puts a woman's body into survival mode and hurts hormones.

  • Sauna is much better: Heat exposure lowers stress, improves recovery, and helps women sleep better.

6. Sleep & Supplements

  • Sleep: Women need more sleep than men on average. Sleep quality is often worst right before the period, so good bedtime habits are key.

  • Key Supplements:

    • Creatine: Good for workout performance, brain health, and gut health.

    • Vitamin D: Essential for hormone health.

    • Iron: Important because women lose blood monthly.

    • Protein Powder: Helps women hit high protein goals without eating too many calories.

7. Calories & Diet

  • High calorie deficits fail: Severe dieting causes extreme hunger panics in women, making weight loss harder.

  • High Protein: Women need 1.1 to 1.2 grams of protein per pound of body weight daily (e.g., a 130 lbs / 60 kg woman needs around 140g of protein).

  • Say no to Keto: Avoid the Keto diet. Eat a wide variety of whole foods to feed your gut microbiome, which controls hormone health.
